I think one thing that would be useful is to give people who are deciding where to invest their money a clear guide on how to avoid fossil fuel heavy funds - and what they could put their money in instead to get a good return
Bill, is that true for some of the really hard-hit countries like El Salvador, the Philippines?
Great! How do we get the big pension funds to use them, Bill?
I find it amazing as well, Bill. Look at Pakistan, flattened by this flooding - and yet planning to open tons of coal-fired plants to meet energy demand and cut blackouts
I think the churches are a great addition to this debate - a little moral and spiritual view on all this is much needed!
So why are so many countries building power capacity for coal? Why is CDM, etc. not changing this "development trajectory"?
Mary, what do you think is key to ensuring poorer countries have the means to get themselves off fossil fuels?
Yes, that's right - we've seen the political problems when subsidies are cut!
Bill, do you think there will be a natural jump to solar and wind when they are cheaper?
Winnie, yes hard to say others should be doing more to cut coal when rich countries are not
Mary, do you think the voices being heard at the New York summit are diverse enough?
